Pretest of Integrated Health Field Manual for Community Women¢¥s Programmes



Abstract
A pretest to evaluate the integrated materials concerning health, nutrition, and overall planning for better family living, for field use, was conducted from April 18 to 22, 1980, through a workshop for leaders of the mothers¢¥ club of the Hong Cheon primary health care project area, with the cooperation of KHDL local health center, and of UNICEF.
The printed material; consisting of 70 pictures with short narration, and a slide kit were used for the material evaluation. The study comprised three categories: 1) questionnaire to inquire about family background 2) group reading, by subjects, to identify difficult terminology or sentences in the material 3) written tests before and after group reading of the material in its entirety and viewing of the slides 4) determination of the material¢¥s usefulness and comprehensibility, the level and structure of interest generated, and its value for community use.
1. Family background
Thirty-nine percent of the 73 women, subjects were 30 to 39 years of age; 40% were between 40 to 50 years old. Sixty-nine percent were educated at or below the elementary school level. Eighty-eight percent of subjects had radio and 74% had television. Fifty-two percent had 3~4 children and 35% had more than 5 children.
2. Material evaluation
Concerning usefulness of the material, 85¡Æ% of subject gave positive answers. Ninety-two percent found the material interesting and 100% of the high school graduates had no difficulty at all in understanding content, while some if those educated at or below elementary school level experienced
some difficulty and found unfamiliar words or sentences. The study found 91 words, which should be translated into easier mire conversational words. According ti the comparative results of the written tests, in elective and narrative questions, average scores were 14.. 3 (S.D. 4.4845) before training and 19. 0 (S.D.=3.7119) after training, from a full score if 25. 0, in terms if 6.63103(p. <0. 01) The
results also reflect the differences in educational background and, age distribution of subjects.
The authors recommend that the material be revised according it the results of the pretest, fir better material development and for its effective use in community programs.
